    We are currently looking for a Merchant to join our Tribe!


    The Merchant is financially responsible for a specified classification or category within a classification.  In this role, the Merchant will build the assortment strategy, shopping the market and creating a balanced assortment. The Merchant will be responsible for the following duties: 

    • Create and implement merchandise strategies that support company objectives
    • Select, edit and build a balanced assortment that will meet financial goals for a specified class or category of business
    • Communicate a point-of-view on product supported by facts
    • Contribute new product ideas
    • Supports the open-to-buy and designated area of responsibility
    • Build assortments which maintain departmental goals and meet target customer needs
    • Partner with a planner to assign product valuations based upon historical data, current trend and future events
    • Work together with a planner on forecasting the business financials
    • Collaborate with product development and design teams on assortment needs
    • Work in concert with visual and marketing to insure that the original vision /intent for product is communicated and executed
    • Maintain an on-going development and mentorship of direct reports to ensure effective performance and continued growth, strive to positively lead teams
    • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external sources
    • Collaborate with store teams to refine knowledge of customer needs
    • Travel as needed
    • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job


    Education:           Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising or related field


    Experience:        3-7 years in merchandising. Preferred 4+ years as a Merchant or Associate Merchant in apparel or accessories 


    Skills:                     Proficient with Microsoft Office

                                    Excellent oral and written communication

                                    Ability to set priorities, work independently and manage deadlines

                                    High sense of urgency

                                    Understand SMU brand and customer

                                    Analytical & creative driven

                                    Ability to grow into Merchant

                                    Capable of thriving in a constantly changing environment

                                    Highly solution oriented and creative problem solver
